reflections
"Sometimes, it seems like the challenges with climate change and the environment are insurmountable. And honestly, after this month, I realized more than ever that while each person's daily actions are critical, the real change needs to come from us pushing our leaders to do better... to be better. To do the courageous thing. Because these are systemic issues that need systemic solutions. The parts about this challenge that I appreciated the most were learning about the bigger picture --- learning about the systems, and learning about the huge positive changes that have already taken place. I am leaving the Challenge far more informed, curious, and empowered than when I started. I'm so grateful to everyone who made this possible. Thank you!"

"This year’s challenge was fun—like last year I wanted to see how well I would do with some daily actions that I was already trying to make into habits. Next year I want to CHALLENGE myself to pick up some activities that I’ve never done before."
— Rachel
"planning to make these actions a habit for the year -- not just for the month"
— Kathleen
"Just saw my last trophy/sparkles for this challenge - I admit it is just fun to see. Realize next Ecochallenge I decide to participate in I better pick more challenges!! :)"
— Jeanne
"It's great to see us come together as a community for this eco challenge. I wish this was extended throughout the year!"
— Anna
"I have replaced several plastic storage containers with glass containers. Only 3 more plastic ones to replace. I am not using plastic wrap but instead use tin foil and parchment paper. Plan to do my best to avoid plastic if I can."
— Kathy
"Now that I am conscious of my habits and what I consume, I will continue to pay attention and try to consume less garbage, literally."
— Jenifer
"The challenges I faced during a week without electricity after Hurricane Beryl really brought home to me how much we lean on plastic when there are often alternatives worth considering. I can't begin to guess the amount of bottled water consumed--even though our water supply wasn't interrupted or contaminated. And judging by what I see at the grocery store, many folks prefer to rely on bottled water rather than carrying a reusable container. We have to do better. And that means *I* have to be better. This Ecochallenge helps me gain knowledge and practice habits to support a sustainable lifestyle. I've enjoyed this journey with you all!"
— Mary
"This is my 3rd year participating in the Plastic Free Ecochallenge. I have decreased my single plastic use and the small changes have become permanent habits. Thanks, team!"
— Vera
"Every time I review my actions and the actions of others -- it encourages me to keep making changes"
— Kathleen
"I got bar shampoo and I love it- It's NO plastic involved and I like it over other shampoos I have tried. I got a bar shaving cream and it's also amazing! Loving this bar life in my shower at the moment- clears up a lot of clutter from the plastic bottles"
— Kerrigan
"I can't believe it is the last day! I do plan to continue many of the things I started in this challenge, and explore more options!"
— Mary Beth
"This has been a great month of reflection and trying new things!"
— Jessica
"I can't believe it's already the last day of the Ecochallenge! I have greatly enjoyed learning about topics like proper clothing care, expiration dates, and bioplastics, and discussing them with others. It has also been wonderful challenging myself every day with the daily actions, all of which I hope to continue past this month's end. Thank you to everyone for your high fives and words of encouragement throughout this month!"
